Atlanta weather | Showers and cooler temps on the way
Showers that drenched south Georgia will make their way to Atlanta Friday afternoon.
And the wet weather will reappear off and on through Sunday, dampening some weekend plans, but it is also expected to help clear up some of the pollen that reached extreme levels Thursday.
After a record-breaking 84-degree day on Tuesday and cooler temperatures on Wednesday, expect the trend of cooler weather and moisture to continue.
Showers will begin around lunchtime Friday.
“So you may dodge a little shower here or there, especially along and south if I-20,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “To the north, you’re going to stay a little drier, and temperatures are still mild.”
Friday’s high is 67 degrees, but highs drop a bit each day through Sunday.
Morning lows will reach the 50s in Atlanta Saturday, and the high will only increase to 60 degrees.
“It’s going to be gradually cooler as we go through this week and into the first part of next week before we start our warming trend again,” Minton said.
Temps were 75 degrees in Atlanta, 69 degrees in Blairsville and 76 degrees in Griffin at 2 p.m.
They will decrease to 73 degrees by 3 p.m. and climb to 76 degrees by 5 p.m.
Thursday's pollen count was 1,531 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air — the highest pollen count of the season so far. However, that's still about a fourth of last year's season high of 6,152 on April 9.
But the cooler weather and rain expected this weekend should clear up some of the pollen.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers Friday and a 40 percent chance Saturday.
Temperatures will drop to the mid-50s Sunday, when there is also a 20 percent chance of rain.
