Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Friday as part of a cooling trend that could also mean a wintry mix next week, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists said.

“Now as we head through this evening, it’s going to be cold, falling through the 30s and winds gusting between 20 and 25 miles per hour,” meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Temperatures will drop to the upper 20s with wind chills in the mid-teens Friday morning, Nitz said.

Winds should subside some by the afternoon, but temperatures aren’t expected to warm anytime soon. They’ll hit below freezing ranges each day through the weekend.

There’s a 30 percent chance for a mix of rain, snow or freezing rain, Nitz said. And the possibility of snow continues into Tuesday.

Meteorologist Karen Minton said over the next few days, she doesn't expect anything like the downpour that drenched Atlanta with more than 2 inches of rain and sparked flooding and crashes Wednesday.

She said it was too early Thursday to even tell which areas could expect to see the wintry mix Monday.

“Much can change in five days,” Minton said.
