The cool temperatures and fog that started Sunday morning should give way to a dry, hot day as the afternoon progresses.
Temperatures should rise into the low- to mid-80s in most neighborhoods by lunch, said Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley.
“Can’t rule out the possibility of a stray shower, but mostly south of the city,” Chandley said.
There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Sunday.
Chandley said the rest of the week will also see high temperatures and slight chances of rain.
There’s a 20 percent possibility of precipitation from Sunday through Tuesday, which rises to a 40 percent chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
While the weather may be improving for the weekend, the traffic will be rough.
Crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation were scheduled to work on several key metro thoroughfares, including the heavily traveled Downtown Connector.
Expect lane closures northbound on the Connector near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive overnight and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, DOT spokesman Mark McKinnon said.
Just north of the city, look for both north- and southbound lanes on I-85 to have as many as three lanes closed as work continues on the I-85/State Route 400 Interchange, McKinnon said.
Work on eastbound I-20 between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road in DeKalb County will close two right lanes for bridge joint work, DOT officials said.
And on I-285 between Roswell Road and Ga. 400, expect bridge work to close as many as three left westbound lanes all weekend, while drain cleaning could close various lanes all the way around the Perimeter, McKinnon said.
All work is weather-permitting, DOT officials said.
