The rain that began overnight across metro Atlanta will likely linger through much of the weekend, forecasters said.

The heavy rain prompted the National Weather Service to post a flood warning before daybreak Friday for Big Creek in Forsyth County.

Rainfall totals through 7 a.m. included 2 inches in Cartersville, 1.36 inch in Marietta, 1.28 inch in Chamblee and .86 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said there’s a 70 percent chance of rain Friday, diminishing a bit to 40 percent Saturday before dropping to 20 percent on Sunday.

High temperatures will be in the low 70s Saturday and mid-70s Sunday, Minton said, with morning lows in the 60s.
