Atlanta weather | Below freezing temps expected, wintry mix next week
Snow in the north Georgia mountains Friday likely won’t be the last of winter weather, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The north Georgia mountains could get snow Monday, when there is also an 80 percent chance of a wintry mix in metro Atlanta, meteorologists said.
That will likely mean widespread freezing rain.
Temperatures will start to chill overnight, meteorologist Brad Nitz said. They will fall to the 20s this weekend.
Northern areas were already experiencing winter weather Friday.
Residents reported snow in Blairsville, Union County and in Towns County and accumulation in Hiawassee, which is more than 100 miles north of Atlanta.
Nitz said got reports of sleet and freezing rain near the state line at McCaysville.
Temperatures were 51 degree in Atlanta, 35 degrees in Blairsville and 55 degrees in Griffin just after 1 p.m.
