For those travel obsessed who want to take their love of globetrotting to a new level while working remotely, Remote Year is the perfect solution. The company, the brainchild of founder and CEO Greg Caplan, received a massive amount of funding — $12 million to be exact — from Highland Capital Partners alongside other investors WeWork and Airbnb.

The idea behind the company is simple — taking the love of travel on the road and experiencing a year full of memories with others while working from the comfort of your laptop.

Those interested in Remote Year undergo an application process via their website. The core group is whittled down to no more than 75 people. Each applicant is asked about whether they have secured remote work or not, although it isn't a requirement to be accepted as resources and tips can be provided to assist in the search.

What does the cost of such a program run? Once accepted into Remote Year, a $5,000 down payment is needed to secure your spot. An additional $2,000 is payable each month for 11 months and is inclusive of accommodation, coworking spaces and travel between countries.

Remote Year is a relatively new venture for Caplan as he first came up with the idea two years ago. Since then, the inaugural cohort of 75 has completed its journey around the world. Applications are currently open for 2017.
