Here's the ticket to your next getaway...

A today-only offer (1/19) of $60 one-way to Los Angeles or San Francisco, Calif. from United Airlines presents a rare opportunity to travel to these coastal destinations now through mid-December.

The catch?  There is no ticket-by date, so choose some dates and buy tickets immediately. This deal won't stick around long.

Rules are simple. Give at least a one-week advance notice of travel. The $60 rate is permitted on travel any day of the week, based on sale seat availability. There are no blackout dates to avoid and the last permitted day of travel is Dec. 15.

The inclusive rate of $82.60 each way (including all taxes, fees) is valid on United's service via Chicago-O'Hare.

One vacation idea is to book an open jaw round-trip ticket to enjoy both destinations (fly into one and out of another) and travel between the two with a classic California coastal road trip. Follow National Geographic's take on one of the finest "Drives of a Lifetime" at http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/road-trips/california-pacific-coast-road-trip .

Sale airfares are always subject to change. Every seat on every flight is not offered at the lowest rate. Since only a limited supply of seats is available, act quickly to make your purchase.

I recommend starting the search for available seats at Kayak.com vs. calling an airline directly. You can also search for the sale at travel Web sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, etc.

Airlines can discontinue or pull a sale price without notice.
