Michael and Maria Gavenchak's home is located in The Estates at Atlanta National in Milton. It covers 9,600 square feet.

A view from above the formal living room. The Gavenchaks bought all the Italian marble and chandeliers for their home before they started building. Their preparation kept the building process on track.

The formal living room shares a double-sided fireplace with the keeping room. The mantel is cast concrete, creating a pedestal effect for Teddy Gavenchak's painting. She is Michael's mother and an accomplished artist.

Maria Gavenchak faux painted the master bathroom green with pewter accents. The counter is Silestone, and the floor is Italian marble. All of the artwork is by Teddy Gavenchak.

A small, brown jewelry box on the end table in the living room tells a grand love story. Maria Gavenchak's grandfather made the box for her grandmother when he was imprisoned during the Spanish Civil War. A painting by Michael's mother, Teddy, brightens the room.

Maria also faux painted the downstairs powder room. It was her first and most time-consuming faux painting project. (Her advice: Avoid using red when faux painting.)

The master bedroom is done in reds and golds, a favorite combination of Michael Gavenchak. His wife and son, Mikey, painted the walls in goldleaf for Michael's birthday.

Maria shows off her funny doll collection in her "girl" room, where she retreats to work on scrapbook projects.

The backyard pool is surrounded by woods, providing another retreat, yet it's just steps from the golf course.

Mikey, 16, and Nicolas, 10, enjoy the media room in the terrace-level basement. Both are avid golfers.

Teddy Gavenchak's studio in the two-bedroom home next to the younger Gavenchak's house. The grandparents spend their winters in Georgia. Michael Gavenchak built the home in case his parents ever want to move to the South permanently.

This rocker and farm table at Teddy's house are antiques. "Eclectic with a rustic edge," is how Michael describes his mother's style.

Teddy choose simple, but elegant furnishings in their part-time home. The windows also let in plenty of natural light.

The grandparents' home covers 1,800 square feet, and it has two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Michael's office includes a solid mahogany desk from his days as a lawyer and two computer-assisted self-portraits of his sons.

Much of Teddy Gavenchak's portfolio focuses on the juxtaposition of the figure and the imagination, according to her Web site, www.teddygavenchak.com.

The Gavenchaks love to entertain, and the keeping room off the kitchen is a gathering spot for guests.

Maria enjoys her restaurant-style kitchen.

Maria decorated with the Mediterranean in mind throughout the home. This room features family photos and of course, Teddy's art.

Much of the pottery in the house is from Spain, where many in Maria's family still reside. She used to teach Spanish at Crabapple Crossing Elementary.
