A gold necklace from the ruins at Pompeii is testimony to the wealth of some of the victims whose final moments and way of life are remembered in an exhibit coming in mid-October to the Birmingham Museum of Art.

This statue, found in the Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii, is thought to have originally depicted a member of the Istacidi family that owned the villa at the time of the eruption.

This cast made from the remains of a young child was found with an adult couple and an infant in the House of the Golden Bracelet. The family's remains were discovered at the foot of stairs which had collapsed on them.

Unearthed at Pompeii is a pair of snake-shaped armbands owned by someone who perished when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.

Wooden parts of a bronze dining couch, once used by dining Romans, have been restored and will be on display in "Pompeii: Tales from an Eruption."

A wall painting depicting the god Apollo is part of a fresco found on a wall in a suburban area south of Pompeii.
