In the 1960s, London's Carnaby Street was the hyper-charged nerve center of cool Britannia.

The holiday season brings out shoppers - even the tourists - of all tastes in styles to Carnaby Street in London, where about 170 shops and restaurants line a pedestrian-friendly area that began to reinvent itself around 1997. "I think it's been regenerated," said one shopper on a recent stroll.

The front window of Sherry's celebrates all things Mod, from skinny striped suits to favorite bands like The Jam and The Who.

In November and December, the streets are outfitted in holiday decorations fashioned from CDs, a nod to Carnaby Street's musical past.
