Inside Mary Kay Andrews' home in Avondale Estates

Take a peek inside the home of Avondale Estates resident Kathy Trocheck, a best-selling author who writes under the pen name Mary Kay Andrews.

Kathy Trocheck (who you might know as best-selling author Mary Kay Andrews) lives with her husband in this house in Avondale Estates. The home, which is on the Avondale Tour of Homes, is one of the neighborhood's original homes.

Kathy and Tom Trocheck sit with their dog, Wyatt, in the living room of their Avondale Estates home. The large painting behind the sofa is by Atlanta-based artist Ibe (pronounced ebay).

The master bedroom on the second floor is full of furniture and accessories with history. Toile window treatments also give the room an old feel. Trocheck found the headboard, which is an old porch railing, at a Virginia-Highland store in 1996.

The living room displays much of the art the Trochecks have accumulated over the years. The coffee table is made from an old iron window grate from a townhouse in Charleston, S.C.

The master bathroom has a breezy, beach feel.

The guest bedroom, also located on the second floor, has a cottage warmth that is inviting to visitors. Kathy Trocheck and her sister slept in these twin beds as children.

These antique children's pails are displayed in the upstairs guest bathroom.

Kathy Trocheck keeps her office simple. Two blue Christmas trees remind her of her latest accomplishment, the novel "Blue Christmas."

Trocheck refers to this special area as her shrine. The framed book covers serve as inspiration when she feels discouraged.

Tom Trocheck's office, which is adjacent to his wife's, has a more masculine feel. The Christmas tree is decorated with fishing-themed ornaments in honor of his favorite hobby.

When Kathy was a reporter for The Savannah Morning News, she found these casket handles at a going-out-of-business sale. Thirty years later, those same handles serve as towel racks in the downstairs guest bathroom.

The sitting room is where Kathy Trocheck writes. She likes the warmth of the sun on her skin.

The Trocheck's kitchen has been remodeled with new black granite countertops, new upper cabinets, and an enclosed refrigerator (not shown). The curtains are made of striped dishtowels.

A cozy sitting area in front of the fireplace greets visitors when they first enter the 1926 Craftsman-style home.

Trocheck calls the color of her dining room walls "cranberry," and proudly displays her collection of authentic Blue Willow plates and settings.
