Industrial vibe rules in Castleberry Hill loft

Steel doors, including one from the building's former life as a lumber warehouse, frame the entrance of Hunte's loft.

The loft's open layout has given Hunte flexibility in designing the space. Unlike some loft dwellers who hide air ducts or add more traditional materials like drywall, Hunte has embraced the architecture.

Exposed brick separates neighboring units and heightens the industrial appeal of the first floor.

Hunte calls his decorating style eclectic and natural. "I'm all about natural art, handmade wood and African masks. I find them wherever I travel," he said.

Hunte had a custom Murphy bed built in the dining area to provide extra room for guests.

The kitchen area flows easily into the bar, living room and dining area. Hunte's art collection contains a variety of African sculptures and masks.

Hunte's bar in the living room makes entertaining a breeze. The bar is backlit with a wall of onyx tiles and a counter made of black granite.

On the first level, the floor is stained concrete, keeping the tone industrial. Hunte laid wood floors on the second floor to warm up the space.

At the top of the stairs is a sitting nook with a view of Atlanta's skyline.

The master suite is sparsely decorated, putting the focus on Hunte's custom-made bed.

The master suite also boasts a view of the Atlanta skyline and the aging train tracks. Hunte rides his bike in the back near the trains. Surprisingly, the noise isn't bad, he said. "I don't even notice it."

The master bath includes granite counters and a steam shower for relaxing.

Hunte often takes breakfast on the cozy patio outside the master suite.

The industrial setting takes a different tone in the bathroom, where Hunte used antique cabinets.

The redesigned space has ample wall space to display Hunte's collection of African masks.

The guest bathroom is painted Canyon Copper, a Porter Paints color. This bath is on the first floor, near the home office.

Hunte repurposed what was the master bedroom on the first floor into a home office. He added two bedrooms upstairs.

Exposed brick and unvarnished wood beams provide a rustic canvas for the contemporary furnishings in the living room.

When not barbecuing on his wood-burning pit, Hunte uses the patio as a workout room.

This view from the patio and great room -- with a sliver of Atlanta's downtown skyline and a rustic landscape -- has served as a set for film and music video shoots.

Hunte added a wall-mounted fountain and a planter to a previously blank section of the patio outside the great room.

Another angle of the West Lumber Lofts, which is comprised of only 15 units. These beams are a reminder of the complex's former life as a lumber warehouse.
