Dr. Miles and Kathy Gravier's Sandy Springs home serves as a fanciful travelogue of their world expeditions.

Dr. Miles and Kathy Graivier's 6,500-square-foot home in Sandy Springs includes five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. The residence overlooks a pond perfect for fishing and canoeing.

The staircase was built by Hammersmith Home Renovations and was installed before the Graiviers' moved into their Sandy Springs home 14 years ago. It was brought through the front door in one piece.

Dr. Miles and Kathy Graivier recently renovated the living room of their home, adding new paint, an Indonesian carved mantle that was originally a bed headboard, and a custom light fixture made by Atlanta artist George Long. The room, which features 20-foot vaulted ceilings, is used for entertaining friends and playing games with their two children Max, 9, and Sofia, 2.

Kathy Graivier and her son, Max, 9, began taking piano lessons together last summer to enjoy the baby grand piano in their music room. "I love the music room because I get to hear Kathy and Max learning and playing the piano together," Dr. Miles Graivier says.

"One of our renovations was the kitchen," Kathy Graivier says. "We left the cabinetry alone but decided to change the countertops and add a walk-in pantry."

Most of the family's meals are eaten at the kitchen table that is located next to the family room. The room also functions as Max Graivier's study area.

A double door from India leads to the dining room of the Graivier's home. The door was purchased from an antique dealer in Chicago and helps create an intimate atmosphere inside the room by separating it from the foyer of the home. The abundance of Indian artifacts around the home are a tribute to Kathy's mother who lived in India for many years.

"Our square table has rich textures. When we have guests, the shape allows people to always be included in the conversation, unlike long rectangular dining room tables," Dr. Miles Graivier says.

"I told my designer I wanted a table for my sewing machine and storage to do arts and crafts with the kids and I was blown away by what she came up with," Kathy Graivier says. The shelves and art were purchased from Ikea and the concrete walls were painted blue to make the windowless room appear more inviting.

Max Graivier, 9, recently received a Beatles-themed bedroom as a birthday present due to his love of the band. He began piano and drum lessons last summer and recently took an after-school class regarding the iconic band.

Miles and Kathy Graivier styled their daughter Sofia's room after the book, "Rainbow Fish." The mural, which was painted by a family friend, features fish added by Sofia's older brother Max, 9, and two of the Gravier's goddaughters.

"My biggest inspiration for the master bedroom was Kathy Graivier's passion for objects from India and Thailand," interior designer Monica Topa says. "We can warm up a modern and contemporary space by using furniture, rugs and artwork with unique character and textures."

The reading room in the master bedroom was completed with the help and inspiration of interior designer Monica Topa who designed the floating bookshelves with a travertine tile wall.

Symmetrical vanities lie on either side of the Graivier's master bathroom. The cabinets were built during a recent renovation and mosaic tile surrounds the whirlpool tub and shower.
