Frontier Airlines has been leading the pack with numerous airfare sales for winter travel to western destinations. Its latest sale discounts travel through Feb. 13, 2013 - with the exception, of course, of peak holiday blackout dates.

Through Nov. 12, purchase these one-way deals:

  • $109.60 Denver
  • $120.60 Colorado Springs, Colo. or San Francisco
  • $121.60 Omaha, Neb.
  • $127.60 Salt Lake City, Utah
  • $136.60 Portland, Ore.

To qualify, give at least a one-week advance notice of travel. These rates are valid on Tuesdays, Wednesdays with Mondays, Thursdays-Saturdays priced $20 higher. Blackout dates include Dec. 21-23, 26-30 and Jan. 1, 2, 5, 6. Frontier serves these destinations with one flight connection in Denver.

Orbitz and Frontier Airlines have a unique deal which allows travelers to pay an extra $50 for a “Classic” upgrade of sorts. The fee permits travelers to choose a preferred seat near the front of the plane (second zone boarding), and to enjoy up to two free checked bags, in-flight entertainment (LiveTV), and free same day standby.

For $152 extra, a “Classic Plus” upgrade allows for the same features, including first zone boarding with priority seating with extra leg room, two free checked bags and priority check-in. The upgrade also permits a full refund of the purchased airfare, if necessary.

You’ll see details on this exclusive and optional offer in the last steps of your booking process at Orbitz.com.

Sale airfares are always subject to change. Every seat on every flight is not offered at the lowest rate. Since only a limited supply of seats is available, act quickly to make your purchase. Clara Bosonetto is a retired travel consultant.
