What are you willing to do to shave some dollars off on your next trip across the pond?
Let’s say your planning to visit the United Kingdom this year — and your trip begins on arrival in London.
From Atlanta, round-trip airfares on departures now through May 16 are $1,120.
However, if you’re willing to get in the car and drive up to Chattanooga, Tenn., you’ll shave $186 off of that ticket price.
If you plan to depart May 17-30 or Aug. 11-24, the savings are even greater, or a savings of $233 per person. Assuming that most of us travel with a companion, that’s a $466 savings — or a couple of nights’ lodging in London!
The easiest flight connection from Chattanooga to London is with Delta Air Lines and one connection in both directions in Atlanta.
Now don’t get any big ideas about simply showing up at Hartsfield–Jackson Airport with a story about how you couldn’t get to Chattanooga because of a flat tire or a sick cat.
That’s a really bad idea. Here’s why: If you don’t show for your first flight (CHA-ATL), all remaining flight segments will automatically be cancelled in the airline computer system. There is no excuse in the world that will get you on any flight to London — and you’ll sacrifice all the dollars spent on that ticket (dollars are not transferable).
So enjoy the 1.5-hour ride north — and more importantly, the savings!
Delta offers the above mentioned air rates through April 9.
By the way, London is one of the few cities in Europe where significant savings can be had by starting/ending trips from Chattanooga. Another is Madrid, Spain with savings of $190 per ticket on departures through May 16; $203 May 17-30 or Aug. 11-24.
