Designer, builder combine talents to create Norcross cottage

Mandy and Miller Lowry built their historic home near downtown Norcross.

Mandy and Miller Lowry built their home in downtown Norcross in a historic style. Miller is a home builder, and Mandy is an interior designer.

The breakfast room offers great light, fresh flowers and a cozy formal dining area. The couple were determined to build their new house with history in mind.

These dishes, the couple's Christmas wedding china, adorn the breakfast table. It's a pattern called "Donner Road" by Kate Spade.

The archway in the foyer is accented by preserved boxwood stems wired together.

The sconces in the archway of the foyer are traditional in function, but more modern in aesthetics.

The landing area contains a quilt given to Mandy by her best friend's mother and a chair that belonged to Miller's great grandmother.

The kitchen has a large island for cooking. The farmhouse sink includes a copper gooseneck fixture surrounded by exotic granite counters. The floors throughout are heart pine.

A fireplace dominates the outdoor loggia. It leads to the in-law suite above the garage which currently serves as Miller Lowry's office.

The walnut-stained maple bar on the terrace level includes antiqued granite counters paired with bright red retro barstools.

The parlor is festively decorated for the holidays. The room includes a 130-year-old French settee. Mandy Lowry used the drapery fabric to create the throw pillows.

Mandy Lowry's home office is turquoise with pops of orange and white. The built-in window seat provides plenty of storage.

Architectural plans are tucked away in Mandy's office.

A half bathroom off the family room offers a burst of color accented by a large round mirror. A painting technique called strie was used on the walls to create the dramatic stripes.

Natural light floods the master bedroom. The paint color is Sherwin Williams' Copen Blue.
