Cancun or Cincinnati?

With AirTran latest sale airfares, you can get to the sunny beaches of Cancun, Mexico for the same price of a round-trip ticket to Ohio. Now where would you rather be this winter?

One-way sale rates of $89 ($133.42 inclusive of all taxes, fees) are offered to Cancun on trips finished on or before May 24. Tickets must be purchased before midnight, tonight (1/20).

To qualify, travel to Cancun Monday-Wednesday or Sunday. Qualifying return days are Tuesday-Friday. A 10-day advance purchase is required. Blackout dates apply: Feb. 19, 20; March 12, 13, 18-20, 26; April 2, 23.

If you don't want to be confined to travel on off-peak days, one-way rates of $100 are available seven days a week through Aug. 10 -- and without blackout date restrictions (based on sale seat availability). The $100 rate requires no advance purchase notice.

Sale airfares are always subject to change. Every seat on every flight is not offered at the lowest rate. Since only a limited supply of seats is available, act quickly to make your purchase. I recommend starting the search for available seats at Kayak.com vs. calling an airline directly. You can also search for the sale at travel Web sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, etc. Airlines can discontinue or pull a sale price without notice when the offer is deemed "sold out," or when that rate does not have a "ticket-by" date.

What will compliment those budget airfare rates is a steal of a deal on a fancy resort stay. A newly renovated all-inclusive, four-star family-friendly GR Caribe Resort has it all and opens Feb. 5 with a 60 percent off sale on stays through April. Plus, guests get a $200 resort credit (on five night minimum stays) and kids younger than 12 years of age stay, play and eat free.

The sale rate of $119 per person, per night at the new GR Caribe includes all meals, drinks, 24 hour room service, use of Royal Solaris Cancun facilities including all restaurants, pools (with strolling butlers offering books, magazines, sunscreen, and drinks!), shows, kids' club, spa, mini water park, and more.

Per person, per night rates are $129 for a Deluxe Lagoon View Room; $139 Luxury Ocean View Room; $159 Premier Class Oceanfront View Room and $179 each in a Superior Two Bedroom Villa.

Accommodations at GR Caribe blend Mexican and Moroccan touches with fine woods, marble, quarry stone, white cupolas, precious crafts and textures. Most guest rooms feature ocean or lagoon views and a balcony.

Dining choices can be found at two restaurants and include International, Italian, Asian and Mexican cuisine and low-calorie and vegetarian menu items. In addition to the GR Caribe facilities, guests are welcome to enjoy the restaurants and bars of Royal Solaris Cancun Resort, Marina and Spa.
