Jeff and Jana Schmidt's Sugarloaf home was redesigned to meet their family's relaxed style, while maintaining a distinct elegance.

Jeff and Jana Schmidt's 8,000-square-foot home has six bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. The two-story brick home is located in the Sugarloaf Country Club, a tony gated community home to many local athletes and celebrities.

The grand room is where Jeff and Jana Schmidt, along with daughter Madison spend most of their time. Suzanne Williams and Angela Cain of Angela Cain Interiors assisted the Schmidts with the design of their new home, which incorporated many of the items they had in their previous home. "Before having help with the design, we were never in this room," admits Jana.

A two-story window in the grand room looks out over the 16th hole of the Sugarloaf Country Club golf course. According to Jeff, the room is best enjoyed "On a rainy, stormy night, being in here with a glass of wine, turning the lights down and watching the lightning show outside."

The Schmidts used an affordable technique to make the fireplace stand out. They repainted the original white finish to look like marble.

Jeff and Jana Schmidt chose a collection of chairs instead of sofas in the grand room for a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for guests to mingle at informal gatherings or for one to simply enjoy a period of quiet reflection.

Asked what her favorite room is, daughter Madison said, "The family room, because the whole family gets to sit down and watch TV together." This cozy room with soaring ceilings has a gas fireplace and stone mantel.

A granite countertop and tile backsplash add flair to the kitchen, which is fitted with a gas range on the island. The Dutch doors in the rear of the kitchen lead to the laundry room.

A balcony with a wood and metal railing crosses the space between the foyer and the grand room. The walkway connects the two upstairs living areas.

The sun floods the master bedroom with morning light and Jana comments that after some renovations and decor changes, the room is "comfortable now and very inviting."

A ceiling turret adds height and charm to a sitting area off to the side of the master bedroom.

Granite counters and cherry cabinets adorn the regal master bathroom. The room is also fitted with a heated towel rack and wall-mounted television.

After a hard day's work, Jeff and Jana enjoy a relaxing soak in their whirlpool bathtub. Evening rays of sun cascade through the frosted glass on the front of the house.

The guest bedroom features walls with wainscoting accents, offering a tasteful contrast between the white wood and olive-gray paint and sage bedding. The guest bedroom comes complete with attached bathroom and walk-in closet.

The basement area is where the casual entertaining takes place. The bar is oak with a black tile countertop and the bar stools are adorned with a grapevine pattern.

Downstairs is home to the game room with foosball, billiard and card table, along with a media room with leather chairs for watching movies. Jana's office space and the family gym is also located on the lower floor.
