Elsewhere Brewing opened in October 2020 at the Beacon complex in Grant Park. Needless to say, the pandemic made it a pretty rough year for the brewery restaurant. And as a result, co-founders Sam and Sara Kazmer were forced to change their business model a bit.

But despite that, this month Elsewhere is celebrating its first anniversary with a series of events, including a big anniversary party on Saturday, Oct. 23.

In honor of that milestone, and hard-working people everywhere, one of my new favorites, Proletarian Industrial Pilsner is this week’s Beer Pick.

Proletarian Industrial Pilsner

Elsewhere Brewing, Atlanta

Available on draft and in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans

Profile

Unlike most mass produced industrial lagers, Proletarian Industrial Lager is made with really good ingredients, including German Pilsner malt, Magnum, Hallertau and Saaz hops, and a Munich yeast strain. Elsewhere brewmaster Josh Watterson modeled his take on hip sellers like Narragansett, calling it “a Pilsner for the people.” The result is a very dry, very drinkable, well balanced beer that plays well with light hop additions, and looks really pretty in a dimpled mug, too.

Pair with

Proletarian is a super food friendly beer. On the Elsewhere menu, I’d try it with the sweet potato empanadas, the pimento cheese, and both the cheddar and beef and bacon brats.
