You made it! You're in Austin for South by Southwest and every day is the best day ever. Now what?

It can be harder in Austin to decide what to do than it is to find something to do, and making choices is one of the less enjoyable parts of life. Luckily our "Welcome to Austin" guide provides the perfect mix of guidance and freedom to help get you out there and do the things (when you're not doing SXSW things, that is).

What have you heard about Austin? We have the best barbecue in Texas/the world? It's true. Check out where you can get your hands on some meat here, including famous Franklins and its famous line, and lesser-knowns, like J. Mueller Meat Co. (the man who taught Aaron Franklin what he knows) and La Barbecue.

What does everyone who live here actually eat? A lot, a lot of queso. Find out where locals say their favorite bowl of melted cheese is served, or other local specialties like margaritas and frozen treats. Maybe you're looking to skip those SXSW crowds and are instead looking for something delicious away from it all? We've got a few places in mind.

After you've grabbed a drink, its time to take a break indulging and see what there is to see. Priorities, however, are going to require you get that perfect Austin photo out of the way first. Check out our 10 unique photo spots, get your shot, and then make your rounds visiting the basics: the boardwalk, Mount Bonnellthe bats, the Capitol lawn and at least 175 other reasons we love this town.

The Congress Avenue Bridge shelters the largest urban bat colony in North America. Between 750,000 and 1.5 million bats come out from underneath the Congress Avenue bridge around 9pm. Since sunset is about 8:30, it can be tough for people to see the bats as they make their nightly exit to eat insects.
