"It seems that now people are more open to polyamory as a concept," Jimena Almendares, OkCupid's chief product officer told The Atlantic.

In the past, polyamorous couples had a work around to find additional partners on the app. Couples would make a single profile under one gender and include a picture of the pair.

"As a user, when you land on that profile, you wouldn't know what you're seeing," Almendares said.

The new feature allows both people in the poly polyamorous couple to link to each other.

The couples must opt-in to use the feature.

"Now, couples can identify themselves, and users searching for a non-monogamous relationship can find them more easily," Almendares told CNN. "Also, users searching for monogamous relationships only will not see profiles of users in non-monogamous relationships."

Data from the company states that 42 percent of users would consider dating someone who was already in an open or polyamorous relationship.
