Paul J. Curran Jr. is president and publisher of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he leads one of the nation’s most respected local news organizations and oversees its continued evolution into a modern, digital-first media company serving Atlanta and the Southeast. In this role, he is responsible for advancing the AJC’s growth strategy, strengthening its business performance and reinforcing its long-standing commitment to independent, high-quality journalism that informs, engages and empowers communities.
Curran assumes leadership at a pivotal moment in the AJC’s transformation, building on more than 150 years of journalistic excellence while accelerating innovation in how news is produced, distributed and experienced across platforms. He is focused on expanding audience reach, deepening subscriber relationships, and ensuring the AJC continues to meet the evolving needs and consumption habits of modern news audiences.
A seasoned media executive, Curran brings nearly three decades of leadership experience across local television, advertising and multiplatform media organizations in major markets nationwide. Most recently, he served as senior vice president and general manager of Cox Media, the advertising sales division of Cox Communications, where he led national and local sales strategy, revenue growth initiatives and business transformation efforts across a diversified media portfolio.
Previously, Curran was executive vice president of Cox Media Group Television, where he oversaw programming, operations and sales for a broad portfolio of television stations across the U.S., helping drive audience growth and operational performance in an increasingly competitive media environment. He also served as market vice president for Cox Media Group Orlando, leading integrated media and newsroom operations spanning television, radio, digital platforms and events. He previously held senior sales leadership roles in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and San Francisco.
Curran began his career in media sales and has since built a reputation as a transformational leader with deep expertise in navigating industry change — from the evolution of broadcast television to the shifting dynamics of the digital advertising ecosystem.
