The U.S. women’s national soccer team that will play at the Georgia Dome will include Megan Rapinoe as well as Fayetteville native Kelley O’Hara, Marietta’s Emily Sonnett and St. Simons’ Morgan Brian.

The U.S. will play Netherlands at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18.

Rapinoe has been in the news because she has chosen to taken a knee during the national anthem before recent games. She said she is showing solidarity with San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

"Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties," she was quoted saying on www.americansoccernow.com.

“(The gesture) was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it.

“It’s important to have white people stand in support of people of color on this. We don’t need to be the leading voice, of course, but standing in support of them is something that’s really powerful.”

O’Hara helped the U.S. win the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics and the U.S. win the 2015 World Cup. Brian was also on the team that won the World Cup.

The U.S. last played at the Georgia Dome in 2014 when it defeated Russia 8-0.

A grass field will be installed at the Dome.
