Hector Villalba will be in Atlanta United’s 18 for Saturday’s MLS game against the L.A. Galaxy at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, manager Frank de Boer said Friday.
Villalba, a midfielder/striker, hasn’t made an 18 for the team since sustaining a knee injury at New York Red Bulls in late May. He has one goal and three assists in 11 appearances this season.
Players who didn’t train with the first team Friday included striker Brandon Vazquez, midfielder Andrew Carleton and fullbacks George Bello and Mikey Ambrose.
De Boer said Carleton and possibly Bello will be with Atlanta United 2 for its game Friday night at Kennesaw State. He said Ambrose and Vazquez and still recovering from injuries.
Flo Pogba will play in place of Leandro Gonzalez Pirez on Saturday, de Boer said. Gonzalez Pirez will miss the game because of yellow-card accumulation.
