Forbes reported Wednesday that the resale market for Super Bowl 49 tickets had soared above $7,000 on tiquiq by 10 p.m. ET.

The magazine said the only other event to break the $5,000 threshold was the 2011 Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, which also took place at the University of Phoenix Stadium. The Packers won that game 31-25.

The Wednesday night trend was not guaranteed to last. Although the average price was more than $7,000 at 10 p.m. ET, there was still one ticket available at that time for under $5,000, and the average of the 10 cheapest tickets was $5,400.

What’s a sports fan with thousands of dollars burning a hole in his/her pocket to do? For starters, don’t mull it over too long, the experts say.

"The ticket market tends to behave in predictable ways, which means that waiting is usually the best way to get a deal. This year, however, the Super Bowl ticket market is completely off the charts, and anything but predictable. " (Forbes.com)
