Trevor Lawrence announced that he will forgo his senior season, and the Clemson quarterback will enter the NFL draft. Lawrence, a 2017 AJC Super 11 selection who graduated from Cartersville High School, announced his expected decision on Twitter with a video.

Lawrence, 21, is expected to be the first or second player selected in the 2021 NFL draft.

In a post titled “Thank you, Clemson,” Lawrence was on video from inside the school’s empty stadium.

“Looking back on it, I hope my legacy at Clemson is that I was a great teammate and a great person,” Lawrence said. “Overall, more than football, more than how I played each game, is how I treated people. I want that to be the main thing I’m remembered for. I feel like over the last three years, that’s the thing I’ve kept as a priority is treating people well and being a good person. I hope that’s my legacy when I leave here.”

In three seasons at Clemson, Lawrence lost only two games and led the Tigers to the national championship in 2018 as a freshman after taking over midway through the season. Clemson went undefeated that season and didn’t lose until the 2019 national championship game to LSU. Lawrence missed two games this season due to COVID-19. Clemson lost to Ohio State last week in the national semifinal.

Lawrence finished as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, awarded Tuesday night. He finished the season completing 231 of 334 passes for 3,153 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games. He also ran for eight touchdowns.

Over his 40-game career, Lawrence completed 758 of 1,138 passes for 10,098 yards with 90 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He also rushed 231 times for 943 yards and 18 touchdowns.
