Atlanta United will be one of 20 MLS teams to participate in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup later this year. The team will find out its opening opponent in the draw on May 24 after the completion of the first three rounds of the tournament. The game will be played as early as June 6.

A total of 94 teams from all levels of American soccer will compete in the tiered bracket of single-elimination play.

After the third round ends on May 23, the draw will be held for the fourth round, which features the 12 winners and the 20 MLS teams. Those games are scheduled to begin on June 6 but could be moved up a day depending on the schedules of the competing teams. Another draw will be held for the remaining 16 teams for play on June 20. The quarterfinals are scheduled for July 18 with tentative dates for the semifinals on Aug. 8 and the finals on Sept. 26.

In addition to Atlanta United, MLS teams that will compete are: Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew SC, D.C. United, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy, Minnesota United FC, New England Revolution, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC and defending U.S. Open Cup champion Sporting Kansas City.

Atlanta United 2, of the USL, can not participate in the tournament because it is owned by Atlanta United.

Atlanta United competed in the U.S. Open Cup last year. It defeated Charleston in its opening game and was eliminated after a loss to Miami.
