Arthur Blank’s investment arm is denying reports the Atlanta United FC owner is in talks to purchase the Premier League’s Newcastle United Football Club.
Newcastle owner, sports tycoon Mike Ashley has told British outlets that he is in advanced talks to sell the club to a potential buyer for an estimated $340 million (£300 million).
Newspapers across the U.K. have named Blank as that potential buyer. Steve Cannon, chief executive of the AMB Group, says there is no merit to the reports.
Ashley, who has owned the Magpies for more than a decade, told Sky News he hopes to complete the sale by January and characterized talks “at a more progressed stage than they have ever been.”
Newcastle plays at St James’ Park, the oldest and largest football stadium in North East England. It is the sixth-largest soccer stadium in the United Kingdom.
Blank, who's wealth was recently valued by Forbes at nearly $5 billion, has owned the Atlanta Falcons since 2002. He owns the Atlanta United MLS expansion team, along with Mercedes-Benz Stadium, since opening in the 2017 season.
