Atlanta United's roster for the 2019 MLS season included a few quiet surprises:

Anderson Asiedu, a SuperDraft selection in January whose signing was announced on Friday, is listed as on loan and ineligible. That’s his status because the team is currently out of International slots that it can use to accomodate him.

Midfielder Andrew Carleton, a native of Powder Springs, is not listed as a Homegrown Signing, but is considered one. He was the first Homegrown Signing in team history.

MLS required teams to be compliant with league and roster rules by Friday. The regular season starts Saturday. Atlanta United, the reigning champs, will play at D.C. United on Sunday.

Asiedu is listed as one of three players on loan. The team on Friday announced that Homegrown Signing striker Patrick Okonkwo and fullback Jose Hernandez were on season-long loans to Atlanta United 2.

The team’s eight international slots are filled by: Ezequiel Barco, Franco Escobar, Julian Gressel, Gonzalo Martinez, Dion Pereira, Florentin Pogba, Eric Remedi and Gordon Wild. Asiedu may be listed as on loan and unavailable because the team doesn’t have a remaining international slot. No longer listed as an international are Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Josef Martinez and Jon Gallagher.

The team’s other Homegrown Signings are: George Bello, Chris Goslin and Lagos Kunga.
