Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino said on Wednesday that he hadn't been contacted by the league about his criticisms of the game officials following Sunday's 1-1 draw at Sporting KC.
Martino wasn’t happy with the call that resulted in a penalty kick against his team, as well as what he thought were simulated dives by Sporting KC’s Latief Blessing.
Martino didn’t express any second thoughts about his complaints on Wednesday.
“I think we should be able to give our opinions because otherwise the league isn’t going to be able to improve,” he said.
Martino isn't alone in his criticisms of the refs. Real Salt Lake coach Mike Petke went on an epic rant earlier this season.
New York Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch was also critical of the referees following his team's 3-2 loss to NYCFC on Sunday.
Martino said he wasn’t aware of Marsch’s comments, and then dropped this zinger.
“Though I didn’t see what he said, I watched the game so I can imagine what he said,” he said.
