Marietta's Jynocel Basweti won the Publix Georgia Marathon with an unofficial time of 2 hours, 29 minutes and 44 seconds, running a 5:43 pace Sunday.

Basweti was the defending champion.

Atlanta's Andrew Heath finished second (2:34:51) and Aaron Ladd finished third (2:45:42).

Janet Becker was the first female finisher in the marathon, with an unofficial time of 3:00:42.

Atlanta's Leo Kormanik won the half marathon with a time of 1:06.53.

Rome's Jill Horst finished the 13.1-mile course in 1:21:55 to win the women's division.

Toronto's Josh Cassidy won the wheelchair division of the half marathon in 50:38.

Will Hatchett, 13, was the first non-adult finisher with an unofficial time of 1:45:00. Hatchet is a seventh-grader at North Habersham Middle School.

Competitors are praising the race conditions, which saw temperatures around 60 degrees with overcast skies.
