Lawrenceville’s Walker Zimmerman scored his first goal for the U.S. men’s national team in Monday’s 3-0 win over Bolivia in Chester, Pa.

Zimmerman, a 25-year-old who plays for LAFC, scored on a header off a corner kick in the 37th minute.

“It was incredible,” Zimmerman said to MLSSoccer.com. “It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget, and something I’m going to look forward to talking about with my kids someday.”

It was Zimmerman’s third appearance with the U.S. men’s national team, which is turning toward using younger and less experienced players as it sets its sights toward qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after the more experienced group of players failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Zimmerman was one of the oldest players who appeared in Monday’s friendly. The starting age was 22 years, 160 days old.

Zimmerman and the defense limited Bolivia to four shots, none on goal.

“I remember my first cap was not too long ago,” he said. “Really the ultimate takeaway I had is just to trust in your abilities and what got you to this point and don’t try to do anything out of your comfort zone. I thought he had a great game. I thought we worked well together. We were very composed.”
