Braves third baseman Jose Bautista released an article on The Players’ Tribune website Friday thanking Toronto, the Blue Jays and fans for the past 10 seasons.
Bautista, 37, signed a minor league contract with the Braves for the 2018 season April 18. Bautista is expected to be promoted to the Braves roster Friday and play third base as the Braves take on the San Francisco Giants at SunTrust Park.
In his piece “Thank you, Toronto,” Bautista wrote before he took the field in a Braves’ jersey Friday night, he wanted to tell the city of Toronto how he felt about his time with the Blue Jays.
“I want to say thank you, to the Blue Jays organization, for wanting me in the first place,” Bautista wrote. “When you traded for me, back in 2008, I was a part-time player — closer to 30 than 20 — who had already bounced around between four teams in this league.
“But you gave me a chance, a real chance, to come in and prove myself. And that’s one of the things that I will always appreciate about Toronto as a franchise.”
Bautista's entire piece can be read on "The Players' Tribune."
