Tucker boys basketball coach James Hartry got his 500th career victory Tuesday night when his Tigers beat Clarkston 85-35 in a Region 5-4A game. Hartry’s team led 40-7 after one quarter.

Hartry’s career record is 500-214 in his 25 seasons, all at Tucker. His teams have won 36 state-playoff games in 19 tournament appearances and won a state championship in 2007.

Hartry ranks second in DeKalb County boys basketball victories behind Columbia’s Phil McCrary, who has 735 wins.

Hartry is from Milledgeville and played basketball at Baldwin High and Clark Atlanta. He was among five brothers who starred at Baldwin, one of whom was Donald Hartry, who played on Georgia’s 1983 Final Four team.
