Scout report for AAA for Saturday

Sandy Creek (14-0)

The skinny

Fayette County coach Tommy Webb, whose team lost to Sandy Creek 10-0 on Oct. 29, breaks down the Patriots:

  • Offense: "They have a big-play receiver [Alex Chisum] who's very fast and they love to throw the ball deep. They love to play-action, because they have an adequate, if not good, running game."
  • Defense: "They're pretty much a base team. They don't have to blitz. They have very good technique, especially up front and with the linebackers. They're in 'cover 2′ no matter what you do in the secondary."

AJC rating: 40

  • Run [8]: (180 yards per game) RB Derrick Alexander has 1,086 yards rushing.
  • Pass [8]: (182 yards per game) WR Alex Chisum has 63 catches for 1,354 yards and 11 TDs.
  • Vs. run [9]: (86 yards per game) Held Peach County to 42 yards rushing in the semifinals.
  • Vs. pass [8] (117 yards per game) Seven interceptions for two-way starter Mike Hilton.
  • Special teams [7]: Mitchell McMillian has made 10 of 14 field goal attempts.

Need to know basis

  • The history: Sandy Creek is a 20-year-old high school that opened to relieve Fayette County and McIntosh high schools. It's in Tyrone, a rural town of about 7,000 some 25 miles south of Atlanta.
  • Last year: Beat Clarke Central 29-15 to win the Class AAAA championship.

Carrollton (14-0)

The skinny

St. Pius coach Paul Standard, whose team lost to Carrollton 14-7 in the second round, breaks down the Trojans:

  • Offense: "Their three running backs and their quarterback [in the wing-T] are all tremendous threats to go the distance at any time. You must be disciplined in your defensive game plan and you have to attack the line of scrimmage."
  • Defense: "Their defense is a lot like Peach County's was last year. They're very fast, they're always moving and they do a great job of playing aggressive assignment football."

  • Pass [5]: (105 yards per game) Twenty-one of 72 receptions have gone for touchdowns.
