Eagle’s Landing Christian lost its No. 1 ranking with a season-opening loss.

Now, three current No. 1 teams -- Lowndes, Tucker and Buford -- must beat ranked opponents this week to keep their top positions in the Georgia high school football rankings.

ELCA fell to No. 2 in Class A this week after losing 21-18 to Briarwood Christian, the No. 1 team in Alabama’s Class 5A.

Previous No. 2 and reigning state champion Clinch County fell to No. 6 after a sluggish 14-13 victory over Pierce County. The new No. 1 is Savannah Christian (1-0), the state runner-up the past two seasons.

New to the rankings are Clarke Central (AAAA), Grady (AAA) and Dublin (AA). Gone are Starr’s Mill (AAAA), Baldwin (AAA), Swainsboro (AA).

This week, No. 1 Lowndes of AAAAA plays at home against No. 5 McEachern, which defeated Lowndes 23-22 last year in Powder Springs.

In AAAA, No. 1 Tucker plays No. 9 Marist at Adams Stadium. Tucker won 31-24 in two overtimes last year.

In AA, No. 1 Buford plays No. 3 Carver of Columbus. Carver beat Buford 14-0 last year.
