Lynn Hunnicutt, the Rome native who led alma mater Pepperell to a state championship in 1990, was confirmed Tuesday as the new head coach at Model in Rome.

Hunnicutt is 177-110-1 in a 26-year coaching career that started for him as a head coach at Fitzgerald in 1981. He was Pepperell's coach from 1983 to 2006, after which he retired temporarily.

Model was 1-9 last season under first-year coach Randy Surrett.
