Columbia swept Carver-Atlanta on Tuesday in the Region 6-AAAA baseball tournament to clinch a state playoff berth for the first time since 2003. The Eagles improved to 18-3-2 after winning 13-0 and 17-4. Columbia will be the region’s No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

More baseball: No. 2 Marist won the Region 6-AAAA tournament title with a 14-2 victory in Game 3 of its series with No. 5 Redan. The War Eagles had to win Games 2 and 3 to take the series after losing the opener 9-2. Redan pitcher Brandon Baker, a Missouri signee, threw a five-hit complete game shutout in the first game, and Georgia signee Wesley Jones was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer for the Raiders. The win gave the Panthers the Region 8-AAAAAA championship. … Marist won both Region 6-AAAA titles. The girls team beat Grady 6-1 on Tuesday to claim its eighth consecutive region title. The boys team defeated Chamblee 5-1 to clinch its second consecutive region crown and third in four years. … St. Pius defeated Decatur 6-0 on Tuesday behind two goals each from Calvin Jackson and Tyler Alexander. St. Pius also defeated Woodward Academy 6-1. … Westminster knocked off AA No. 1 Greater Atlanta Christian 2-1 in a Region 6-AA match. Each team ended the season with a 5-1 region record, as they split two regular-season games. It was GAC's first loss of the season.

Gymnastics: Gymnasts from across the state will take part in the gymnastics state championships at Westminster at 7 p.m. Friday. Individual championships and the overall team title will be up for grabs at the event. Tift County enters the meet as the two-time defending state champion, and senior Beth Roberts will be a favorite in the all-around competition and on three of the four apparatuses.
