It has been a good start to the season for Class AAA No. 1 Buford. The unbeaten Wolves defeated three Class AAAAAA Gwinnett County powers — Mill Creek, Archer and Brookwood. Buford has outscored its first five opponents 29-5.
More softball: Lassiter used a seven-run second inning to complete a 13-1 victory against Class AAA No. 7 Blessed Trinity on Tuesday. The No. 9 Trojans' Kelly Sinclair was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Carli Kayler was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Lassiter opens region play Thursday when Wheeler visits. … North Hall opened region play Tuesday with a 3-0 victory against visiting White County, and the Gainesville girls won their region opener 11-3 against Clarke Central. Starter Kara England improved to 2-1 on the season after allowing four hits before teammate Kayla Street closed out the final two innings for the Red Elephants. …
Walton is 0-6 after surrendering a 7-2 lead to South Cobb and losing 8-7. South Cobb is 7-2. The Eagles gave up five unearned runs to Walton off four errors, but pitcher Brittany Rhodes improved to 7-0. … Mount Paran Christian needed five innings to top Walker 18-4. Mount Paran got its runs off just seven hits and 11 walks and four hit batsmen. … Allatoona rode the momentum of Morgan Kazerooni’s early three-run homer to beat North Cobb 11-3. The Buccaneers scored additional runs in the fourth and seventh innings. …
Allatoona, ranked fourth in Class AAAAA, will compete in the third annual Buccaneer Bash Invitational Tournament, with nine schools hosting more than 75 games on Friday and Saturday.
Each team plays two pool games Friday and will then be seeded into medal pools for Saturday. Archer, Lassiter, Allatoona, Harrison, Roswell, Colquitt County, Hillgrove, Etowah, Sonoraville, Paulding County, South Gwinnett, South Paulding, Kennesaw Mountain, Mt. Pisgah, Ridgeland, Sprayberry, Woodland-Henry, Lassiter, Woodland-Bartow, Fannin County, Coffee County, North Cobb, Southeast Whitfield, Union Grove, Cass, Calhoun and Heritage-Catoosa will be in attendance.
Cross country: The top-ranked Westminster boys won their own event by dominating the field at the Kosh Klassic. Seven Wildcats runners finished in the top nine. Jordan Flowers took first for the hosts, and Graham Huff took second. Decatur's Lucas Ryter took third, and Ola's Erik Roberts came in fourth. Bleckley County, Newnan, Lovett, Cross Keys and Bremen also competed. …
In the girls meet at the Kosh, Lovett took first place and was followed by defending state champion Wesleyan. Newnan, Bleckley County, Decatur, Bremen and Ola rounded out the meet. Wesleyan’s Carolina Reed took first place, and Serena Tripodi of Lovett took second and Ellen Powell of Bleckley County came in third. Tripodi led a group of four Lions who each finished in the top six.
Volleyball: Lakeview Academy had road sweeps of Loganville and the Heritage School on Tuesday. The visiting Lions topped Loganville (25-21, 25-22), then defeated edging Heritage (25-17, 25-23). Shelby Ross had double-digit kills and added five aces and a block. Bailey Towles had 18 assists and Delaney Jarrett added 14 assists. … Walker swept Kennesaw Mountain (25-15, 25-11) and made quick work of Cartersville (25-14, 25-13). Brooke Warner had 25 kills for the Wolverines. Walker moved to 2-4 and will host King's Ridge Christian and Galloway on Thursday. … Harrison held its ground in a tough double-header by topping Hebron Christian (25-20, 25-20) and Holy Innocents' (25-19, 25-15). Caroline Ostman had 23 kills and 18 digs for Harrison, and Jocelyn Mahayag added 33 digs. Marietta won in three sets over North Cobb Christian (25-14, 13-25, 25-19) and completed the sweep with a victory against Woodland-Bartow (25-9, 25-18). … East Hall remains unbeaten after sweeping a pair of matches Tuesday. The Lady Vikings (11-0) beat Jackson County (25-19, 25-23), then defeated Monroe Area (25-13, 25-16).
