Lassiter’s girls lacrosse team made a strong case for moving up in the rankings when the new polls come out this week. The Lady Trojans, ranked No. 4 in Class AAAAAA, started last week with a 16-10 victory against second-ranked Walton and finished Saturday with a 12-9 victory against Hutchison (Tenn.), the No. 9 team in the South, according to LaxMagazine.com.

Lassiter (14-3) hasn’t lost to a Georgia team this season and will face top-ranked Milton on Tuesday with the area championship on the line in the regular season finale for both teams. Milton, which has won five consecutive state championships, hasn’t lost a game against a Georgia competitor since 2009.

Lambert streak continues: In their first week as the top-ranked team in AAAAAA, the Lambert boys continued stellar play, stretching a winning streak to six games since a 13-10 loss to Area 3-AAAAAA rival Centennial on March 28. Included in the current winning streak are three victories against highly touted teams from Florida and Tennessee, a 12-11 overtime victory against Lovett (No. 2 Class A-AAAAA), and Saturday's 9-8 victory against No. 3 John's Creek.

The victory against the Gladiators leaves Lambert, Centennial and Johns Creek each with one loss in area play as the regular season come to a close. Lambert has games remaining with Alpharetta (6-8) and South Forsyth (5-10). Centennial wraps up its area schedule against South Forsyth on Thursday while Johns Creek has completed its regular season.

Westminster clinches: The top-ranked Westminster boys clinched the Area 2-AAAAA title with a dominating performance in a 16-2 victory against No. 3 Allatoona on Friday. It was only the second time this season the Buccaneers (15-2) have been held to fewer than 10 goals. Their previous low came in a 13-8 loss to McCallie (Tenn.), the No. 7 team in the South in the LaxMagazine.com regional rankings.

Westminster (16-1) closes out the regular season with a non-area match against Johns Creek on Friday. The Wildcats have won eight consecutive since their loss to nationally ranked Boys Latin (Md.). Six victories during the streak have come against teams with winning records, four of them ranked in their respective classification’s top 10.

Cambridge ends streak: Georgia's last remaining unbeaten team — boys or girls, regardless of classification — took its first loss during the weekend. The Cambridge girls lost 12-11 to Bishop Eustace Prep (N.J.) on Saturday. Cambridge, which is ranked No. 1 in A-AAAAA, had won 15 consecutive games by an average score of 17.9-5.2.
