The Class A championship baseball series between Providence Christian and Charlton County is on hold because of Tropical Storm Beryl.

State titles in classes AAAA and AA will be decided Monday, while the AAA final between Columbus and Ringgold will begin with a double-header. Parkview defeated Brookwood in a two-game sweep Saturday to claim the AAAAA championship.

The Providence Christian-Charlton County final previously had been postponed two days until Monday in hopes of escaping rains from the tropical storm, but the GHSA ruled to delay the series again and make a decision at noon each day. It could begin as early as Tuesday. Home-standing Charlton, near the coast, does not want a neutral site. Providence is a Lilburn private school.

Other finals are nearing a close. In AAAA, Greenbrier (31-4) and Loganville (30-9) play their third game at Loganville in a 2 p.m. start. Greenbrier’s last state championship came in 2007, Loganville’s in 2008. They split their double-header Saturday.

In AA, Appling County (34-3) and Pierce County (30-8) play at Appling in a 6 p.m. game after their split Saturday. The two south Georgia counties border each other. Neither has won a state title in baseball. Appling center fielder Byron Buxton is rated the No. 1 high school prospect nationally by Baseball America.

In AAA, Columbus is seeking a third straight state championship while Ringgold is hoping to win its first on a rebuilt home field that was torn apart by deadly tornadoes in April of 2011.
