Jesse Hicks, who was 70-24 in six seasons at Baldwin in Milledgeville, is headed to Dougherty of Albany in the city where he played college football.
An Albany State University alumnus, Hicks won Region 3-AAA titles at Baldwin in 2008 and 2009 and reached the Class AAAA semifinals in 2005. Baldwin was 2-27-1 in the three seasons before Hicks arrived.
At Dougherty, Hicks will replace Charlie Flowers, who had retired but was talked into taking the head coaching job at Troup, his alma mater.
Dougherty is 16-23 since reaching the Class AAA final in 2005 under Carror Wright, who is now at Southwest of Macon.
"We want to get this program back to where it was," Hicks told Scott Chancey of the Albany Herald.
