Warner Robins answered any questions – if there were any – about the validity of their spot at the top of the Class 5A rankings. The defending state championship rolled over rival Northside 49-7 to beat the Eagles for the fifth straight season at McConnell-Talbert Stadium.

Christon Lane continues to sparkle, this time throwing touchdown passes to Cam Flowers, D.K. Sturn and Deuce Petty. Fred Lane, Malcolm Brown and Daveon Walker scored on runs.

The Demons defense shut down Northside, which scored its points on a blocked field goal by Antwon Jackson and return by Elijah Robinson.

Warner Robins (3-0) has now scored 147 points in winning its first three games.

Also in Region 1, No. 3 Ware County had to sit the week out when Thomson cancelled because of COVID and the Gators could not scare up a last-minute replacement.

No. 4 Coffee improved to 4-0 with a 46-0 win over Salem. Quarterback Justin Swords threw three touchdown passes, 28 and 3 yards to Maurice Turner and 7 to Matthew Adams. Fred Brown scored on runs of 1 and 23 yards and Antwain McDuffie added a 24-yard touchdown run. Kicker David Vaughn booted five extra points and a 43-yard field goal and the Trojans came up with a safety.

The Trojans have scored 115 points in their three games played; their other win was via forfeit.

Region 7 powers roll on

The three state-ranked teams from Region 7 all posted victories. No. 5 Cartersville beat No. 2 Creekside 17-13, No. 8 Calhoun ripped Ridgeland 56-7 and No. 9 Blessed Trinity scored an impressive 28-10 victory over Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic

Cartersville’s Jake Parker connected with Phillip Schiltz for a 21-yard score with two minutes remaining to give the Purple Hurricanes (3-0) the win. It was Parker’s second touchdown pass, the other going to Jacob Ray. Creekside (2-1) used its mighty defense to produce two touchdowns Daiquon White returned an interception for a touchdown and blocked a punt for a touchdown and had a 14-10 lead.

Calhoun’s Christian Lewis threw four touchdown passes – 7 yards to Quin Smith, 45 to Cole Speer, 10 to Brett Garland and 2 to Jerrian Hames. Speer ran for touchdowns of 22 and 30 yards. Backup QB Trey Townsend hit Nate Fowler for a 40-yard touchdown and Corbin Fuller scored on a 33-yard run. Sergio Sanchez kicked all eight extra points.

St. Pius takes it on chin

The No. 7 Golden Lions never got it going and dropped a 14-3 decision to Johns Creek. St. Pius got its only points on an early 37-yard field goal from Jack Galvez. St. Pius (2-2) turned the ball over on down wit four minutes left and surrendered a long touchdown run that sealed the loss for Johns Creek (3-1).

No. 5 Woodward Academy did not play; the War Eagles (3-0) face Mundy’s Mill on Thursday. No. 10 Decatur had the night off and will return on Friday to play Arabia Mountain.
