Pierce County and Burke County lost games against ranked teams from other classes Friday, but the rest of the active Class 3A top-10 teams enjoyed victories.
Pierce, ranked No. 3, lost to Class 2A No. 1 Rabun County 28-21, after five-star quarterback and UGA-commitment Gunner Stockton completed three touchdown passes and rushed for a touchdown to lift the Wildcats over the Bears.
Class 4A No. 4 Benedictine built a comfortable first-half lead against No. 10 Burke County with a potent offense that never let up. Benedictine earned its fourth consecutive victory, handing host Burke County its first loss of the season.
Aside from Appling County’s bye week, the seven other active top 10 programs were victorious, and one thing is becoming apparent. The top of the class is formidable.
Here’s the breakdown:
-- Top-ranked Cedar Grove had few problems with Redan in its 47-8 victory. The Saints break up their region games with a road trip to Class 7A No. 9 Lowndes on Friday.
