The Hawks were without Devin Harris for Wednesday’s game against the Knicks after the guard traveled to New York for treatment on his ailing left foot.
Harris visited a team-approved physician for treatment of a toe on the foot that has bothered him much of the season. The visit was scheduled and was with a New York City-based foot specialist Harris has seen on two other occasions this season. His last visit during the All-Star break. He returned to Atlanta before the game, as it was at Philips Arena.
Harris has missed 21 games this season, 20 because of the issue with his foot.
“We thought we would play it more safe than sorry,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said.
Harris had a season-high 25-point performance in Monday’s win over the Cavaliers. He also had season-highs in minutes (43), field goals (8), field goals attempted (17) and free throws made (8).
Injury updates: Zaza Pachulia underwent successful surgery to repair a partially torn right Achilles in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday. The center will undergo a period of rest, treatment and rehabilitation with an expected recovery time of six months.
The Hawks also played without John Jenkins, who missed his third consecutive game because of a mild concussion. The guard is getting closer to a return and did some running work Wednesday after moving into the second stage of the NBA’s concussion protocol.
Jenkins, who said he has had a concussion each of the past five years, said he feels great and hopes to be back soon. He said he believes he could play, but is respecting the protocol. He could take part in non-contact drills Thursday.
Etc.: The Hawks signed Shelvin Mack to a two-year deal when they inked the guard for the remainder of the season last week. The second year of the deal is non-guaranteed. … In continuing a season-long tradition, DeShawn Stevenson was seranaded on his 32nd birthday at Wednesday's shootaround. Coach Larry Drew turned 55 on Tuesday. … With the NCAA's Final Four in Atlanta this weekend several coaches attended the game, including Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and members of the team. Tom Izzo (Michigan State) and Brad Stevens (Butler) also attended.
