With Monday’s Rose Bowl tied at 45 through 60 minutes, Georgia and Oklahoma went to overtime -- the first overtime game ever in the Rose Bowl.

Georgia got the football first in the overtime period and was forced to settle for a Rodgrio Blankenship 38-yard field goal, when a third-and-6 throw from Jake Fromm fell off the fingertips of tight end Isaac Nauta.

Oklahoma had a third-and-2, but weren’t able to covert as linebacker and Butkus Award winner Roquan Smith made the tackle a yard short of the first-down sticks. Sooners kicker Austin Seibert made a 33-yard field goal.

The Sooners had the ball first in double overtime. On a third-and-5, Georgia defensive tackle Jonathan Ledbetter jumped offsides which negated a Bulldogs interception. The Sooners couldn’t move the ball after that and had to settle for a Seibert 27-yard field goal try. However, the kick was blocked by Lorenzo Carter.

Two plays into Georgia’s possession, running back Sony Michel atonned for his fumble that led to an Oklahoma touchdown. He hit the edge of the offensive line, turned it up field, and scored his fourth touchdown of the game -- a 27-yarder -- to send the Bulldogs to the National Championship in Atlanta.
