Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and his team didn’t exactly start their four-game series against the Miami Marlins on the right foot. Monday and Tuesday’s games were lost by a total of three runs and Freeman was shutout in both games. But Wednesday night the Braves got a win and Freeman got a hit.
Before Wednesday’s game, Freeman had only two hits in 11 games against the Marlins this season, and none against them in the series. But he didn’t settle for just a hit to break the streak. He hit a homerun to leftfield on a 2-2 pitch from Marlins pitcher Nathan Eovaldi in the second inning.
Before the final game of the series on Thursday night, Freeman said he and his teammates hope to turn that momentum into a split series.
“Obviously we didn’t get off the way we wanted to in the start of the series but we were able to get one yesterday and hopefully we can continue that today,” he said.
With pitcher Aaron Harang at the mound, the Braves have a fighting chance.
“Aaron (Harang) has been pitching great this whole season so hopefully he can continue doing that tonight, and we can get some runs like we did early on (yesterday) in the game and get him comfortable early on,” Freeman said.
Harang has five wins and one no decision in his last eight starts but he has yet to come away with a pitching win in a start against Miami this season.
“Aaron has been that consistent, veteran guy this whole career,” Freeman said. “He comes out and he stands on that mound and he’s an opposing figure on that mound. He’s been doing it his whole career and he’s doing it again.”
