The Falcons have a secret weapon for the Baltimore Ravens.

Backup quarterback T.J. Yates played for Baltimore offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak in Houston and is running the scout team for the Falcons this week.

“It’s the same offense that Kubiak ran in Houston for a long time,” said Yates on Thursday. “I think it fits their personnel well and I think they are doing a good job of it right now.”

The Ravens are averaging 27.3 points per game, which ranks tied for fifth in the league with the Falcons. They are averaging 389.3 yards per game, which ranks eighth in the league.

Kubiak was fired by Houston after last season. Yates came over to the Falcons in a trade that sent linebacker Akeem Dent to the Texans on June 18.

“As far as running the scout team, you look up there and you see all of these plays that you have been running for three years,” Yates said. “I have a lot of familiarity with them and can run them well. Hopefully, I can give the defense the best look as possible.”

Yates expects the Ravens to change some of the calls.

“He knows that I know the calls,” Yates said. “There will be a little gamesmanship there. He’s probably going to have to change some stuff up this week for us.”

Some of the of the Falcons’ defenders have approached Yates for advice.

“There has been a little bit of that, but nothing too crazy,” Yates said. “Those guys do a great job of breaking down film and getting their own things. But whenever they have a question, I’m glad to help them.”
