Backup quarterback Matt Simms led the Falcons to a 17-15 victory over Jacksonville on Thursday night at the Georgia Dome.

He completed 16 of 23 passes for 217 yards and tossed two interceptions. Both interceptions were tipped passes off the hands of rookie tight end Austin Hooper.

Here’s what Simms had to say after the game:

On the game

“The good thing was that we showed good resilience. We fought through it. The defense made a lot of big stops to get us back out there. Hey, we were able to finish and capitalize at the end.”

On playing so much

“It’s great. Hey, when you’re in this type of situation you look for these opportunities to get reps. To show not only your teammates and your coaching staff, but the rest of the league that you can play and play well. Just happy that we got the W. It’s exciting.”

On the passing game

“Nothing really changed. We ran our normal offense. Kyle just tried to make it simple for us as far as how we go about it. Other than, we were just running our normal stuff that we usually do. We were able to do enough to get the win.”

On making the team

“I don’t know. I’m just happy that I got a chance to play tonight and showcase my skills. I love being a Falcons. I love everything that we have going on here. I love being a part of this brother hood, but at the same time too, it’s a business and I understand that. So we’ll see how it works out, but I’ve really loved every minute of this experience.”
