Turnovers are an equalizer for the Falcons’ defensive unit which is ranked last in total yards (404.4 yards) and passing yards (291.1 yards) per game in the league.
The Falcons were plus-4 in the turnover battle with the Saints, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The Falcons had a fumble, but didn’t lose it.
The Falcons have created 28 turnovers (16 interceptions and 12 fumbles.) The team is plus-eight in turnover differential, which is tied for sixth in the league. Green Bay leads the league at plus-15.
“We emphasized turnovers, so we were just trying to get the turnovers to get our offense the ball,” linebacker Joplo Bartu said.
The biggest turnover was safety Kemal Ishmael’s strip of Saints tight end Jimmy Graham at the goal line on the first play of the fourth quarter.
“That was great,” Bartu said. “That was a great momentum shift. To stop them after a drive like that and to get the turnover, that was amazing by Kemal.”
